West Kelowna, B.C. — The West Kelowna RCMP Indigenous Policing Services (IPS) is hosting its Fourth Annual Charity Community Basketball Game, bringing together police officers, youth, elders, and community members in a fun and positive environment aimed at strengthening relationships and building community connections.

The event will take place at Constable Neil Bruce Middle School on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 4:30 pm.

RCMP officers and staff, Westbank First Nation (WFN) members, a representative from WFN Chief and Council, the Mayor of West Kelowna, former Constable Neil Bruce Middle School students, City of West Kelowna employees, and members of the South East District Tac Troop will join together on the court. Officers participating in the game will set aside their regular police uniforms in favour of basketball jerseys as they engage with the community in a welcoming, community‑focused environment.

The IPS basketball team is led by Constable Rolly (Rohel) Williams, highlighted the purpose of the event:

“This game is about building relationships between local youth, elders, Westbank First Nation community members, West Kelowna residents, and the police. We need to get back to being recognized as members of the community and not just uniformed police officers. We live here just as much as we work here.”

Detachment Commander S/Sgt. Brendan Dolan adds:

“Events like this help strengthen trust and build lasting connections. When police, youth, and community members come together in a positive and collaborative way, it supports safer, healthier communities for everyone.”

The game is held in partnership with Constable Neil Bruce Middle School and is a charity fundraiser, with proceeds supporting school programming.

This community basketball game also serves as the kickoff to a series of upcoming cultural programs delivered by our Indigenous Policing Service for all students, both Indigenous and non‑Indigenous. These programs include:

  • drum‑making workshops
  • a canoe journey
  • traditional Indigenous games
  • learning Syilx songs and cultural teachings

These initiatives aim to support community-level efforts toward Truth and Reconciliation by creating opportunities for cultural learning, relationship building, and meaningful engagement.

The West Kelowna RCMP looks forward to welcoming students, families, and community members to this year’s event.
