The West Kelowna RCMP are pleased to announce this educational event that will feature two presentations designed to enhance community safety and awareness around fraud prevention and counterfeit detection.

  • Date: March 9, 2026
  • Time: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Location: Westbank First Nation – Multi Purpose Room
  • Address: 1920 Quail Lane, Westbank, BC

This educational event will feature two presentations designed to enhance community safety and awareness around fraud prevention and counterfeit detection.

Presentation 1: Top Frauds Affecting Seniors

Agency: RCMP Federal Policing Pacific Region
Length: 1 hour 15 minutes

Federal Policing Prevention and Engagement (FPPE) in the Pacific Region will deliver an informative session on current scam trends impacting seniors. Across Canada, older adults are increasingly being targeted by sophisticated tactics used by organized crime groups. This session will outline:

  • How these groups identify and reach potential victims
  • Common deceptive practices used to defraud seniors
  • Practical steps for prevention and reporting

Presentation 2: Counterfeit Currency Awareness

Agency: Bank of Canada
Length: 45 minutes

The Bank of Canada will present an interactive session on recognizing counterfeit currency. Participants will learn:

  • How to authenticate Canadian bank note security features in seconds
  • What to look for when handling cash
  • How to respond if a suspected counterfeit note is encountered

This event is open to community partners, service providers, and members of the public who wish to learn more about fraud prevention and personal safety.
