On Sunday, April 19, 2026 at approximately 2:20 pm West Kelowna RCMP received multiple calls through BC EHS reporting a single vehicle roll over on Elliott Road in West Kelowna. As a result of the crash, live wires from the hydro pole were downed and confirmed to be “live wires” therefore causing an immediate risk of potential injury to anyone within a close proximity.
BC Hydro Services are currently on scene addressing the damaged hydro pole and transformer which is leaking mineral oil onto the roadway. BC Hydro advises the oil is deemed “environmentally safe” and came from within the transformer which was afixed to the pole. BC Hydro crew supervisor advised police that there would be a minimum 10 hours power outage to nearby residents while crews worked on repairing the damage and restoring power.
On initial response, West Kelowna RCMP, West Kelowna Fire Services and BC EHS responded quickly to address any injuries and safety concerns, as well as engage in the ongoing investigation of the cause of the crash.
West Kelowna RCMP, on behalf of local residents surrounding the 2500 block of Elliott Road, would like to remind the public to use care and caution when operating their vehicles by obeying posted speed limits, acknowledging traffic signage and considering all road conditions.
Anyone with information regarding this incident are asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 and reference file number 2026-23140. If you wish to remain anonymous contact the Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
