On August 30, 2025, at approximately 4:42 p.m., the West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit responded to a collision in the 4900-block of Sooke Road in Metchosin.
The collision occurred when a boat trailer, being towed by a Ford F-150, lost both wheels while traveling southbound on Sooke Road. One of the detached wheels struck a northbound Mitsubishi Eclipse head-on, causing extensive damage. The trailer also swerved into oncoming traffic, resulting in minor damage to a Honda Pilot.
The driver of the truck was issued a $598 Violation Ticket for No Insurance on the boat trailer, along with a Box 1 Notice and Order to inspect the issues with the trailer.
“Improperly maintained trailers or unsecured loads pose a serious risk to everyone on the road,” said Cpl. Mike Jacobson, West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit. “This incident could have had far more serious consequences. We encourage all drivers to ensure their trailers and towing equipment are safe, secure, and properly insured before hitting the road.”
