November 2025- The West Shore RCMP Officer in Charge Certificate of Appreciation was presented to the Young Men Second Ward Camp of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their efforts in searching for and locating a missing child.

In October, 2025, the West Shore RCMP received a report of a missing 11-year-old youth. The investigation determined that the youth had left school, taken an unfamiliar path through a forested area, and became lost. With nightfall approaching and no means of communication, the situation became increasingly urgent, prompting police to activate Search and Rescue resources. The youth remained missing throughout the night.

The following morning, the Young Men Second Ward Camp were camping at Goldstream Campground when they were approached by a woman who reported hearing noises in the nearby forest and believed someone might be in distress. Without hesitation, the group organized a search party and began searching the surrounding area. Shortly thereafter, they located the missing youth and safely escorted the youth back to their campsite. The group provided the youth with food, warm clothing, and companionship until police arrived.

The actions of the Young Men Second Ward Camp on this day exemplify courage, compassion, and community spirit. Their prompt response and selfless efforts directly contributed to the safe recovery of a missing child.
