The Williams Lake RCMP detachment were able to procure further funding to ensure the safety of the public for Stampede weekend through the Government of BC’s Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement Program. BC Highway patrol issues 18 immediate roadside prohibitions for impaired driving and conducted 5 check stops throughout the weekend.
Williams Lake RCMP responded to 310 calls for service from June 26 to July 3, 2025. Williams Lake first responders responded to various calls including assaults, impaired driving, and mental health apprehensions. Here are a few highlights of the week.
June 27, 2025
- One man was arrested for their endorsed warrant then released without issue.
- Male arrested for breach and possession of a weapon due to multiple calls of a male swinging a weapon around at a business on Oliver St. Male held for court.
- Police responded to a missing youth who was located after the responding member spent hours talking to school officials, friends, and parents to pinpoint a location.
- One man was arrested for their unendorsed warrant and held for court.
- BC Highway Patrol conducted several check stops resulting in numerous 24 hour driving prohibitions and Immediate roadside prohibitions due to impairment.
- Cariboo-Chilcotin Crime Reduction Unit and the local General Investigations unit conducted numerous arrests after several fights took place at the Stampede grounds.
- Police attended a call of an assault where one individual swung towards another with a butter knife. The alleged offender was arrested and released on conditions.
- Police attended a residence resulting in an arrest of one male who had too much to drink and assaulted another. The male was held in custody until safe to care for himself as the victim did not wish to proceed with charges.
June 28, 2025
- A male was arrested for drinking alcohol in public while in Boitanio park. Male released when safe to care for himself.
- Police attended a motor vehicle incident where a vehicle went over an embankment and dropped ten feet before getting caught on a ledge rather than dropping several hundred feet. Driver sustained minor injuries and attended the hospital.
- Police attended a call of two victims that were stabbed by one alleged offender. The alleged offender was taken into custody immediately without issue. All parties are known to each other. Injuries sustained were minor. Investigation is still ongoing.
June 29, 2025
- Male arrested and held until safe to care for himself after punching at an intercom and swearing at staff at a local agency.
- Male arrested for impaired driving after rear ending another vehicle near Hwy 20 and Meldrum Creek Rd. The male was later located operating a UTV impaired.
- 3 individuals given 90 day driving prohibitions for impaired driving. 1 individual given a 3 day driving prohibition for impaired driving.
June 30, 2025
- An intoxicated male was arrested for threatening employees and lodged in cells until safe to care for himself. Male received ban letter from business.
July 1, 2025
- A semi-truck and trailer ended up rolling into the ditch on Hwy 97 and Toop Rd. The driver stopped the semi-truck and exited to check on the vehicle when it started to roll. The driver suffered minor injuries while holding onto the vehicle. Driver and youth passenger brought to hospital as a precaution.
- Male apprehended under mental health act and brought to hospital for assessment.
- Female apprehended under mental health act and brought to hospital for assessment.
- A female was arrested for breaching her release conditions stemming from a theft while committing another theft. Female held for court due to concerns of re-offending.
- Police attended a fight between youth brothers which ended up one being brought to cells due to their impairment and uncontrollable anger. Youth male released to their guardian when safe to do so.
- Police responded to a report of a suicidal individual. Police located the person, apprehended under the mental health act, and brought to the hospital for assessment.
July 2, 2025
- While on a proactive patrol, a member arrested a male who had unendorsed warrants. The male was held for court.
- A male was reported to have stolen an item from a local business. The male was arrested and lodged in cells due to impairment.
July 3, 2025
- A female was apprehended under the mental health act and brought to the hospital for further assessment.
- A male was apprehended under the mental health act and brought to the hospital for further assessment.
