The Diverse and Inclusive Pre-Cadet Experience (DICE) is a new RCMP recruitment and retention initiative focused on removing barriers that impact racialized and underrepresented groups who aspire to join the RCMP.

  • Newcomers to Canada (that is new Canadian citizens or permanent residents)
  • Persons from diverse ethnic and cultural groups
  • Individuals from racialized groups and communities
  • Persons from all employment equity seeking groups

There are two parts to the Diverse and Inclusive Pre-Cadet Experience program:

  1. Applicants are paired with an RCMP employee mentor who will provide their mentee with support and insight into a career with the RCMP. Mentors will assist Diverse and Inclusive Pre-Cadet Experience candidates with the Diverse and Inclusive Pre-Cadet Experience application process, the training experience, and police officer application process should they choose to apply.
  2. The program also provides a three-week training session hosted at the RCMP Academy, Depot Division, in Regina, Saskatchewan for candidates who are identified to benefit most from the experience.

As a Diverse and Inclusive Pre-Cadet Experience candidate, you'll learn:

  • how to work as part of a policing team
  • an introduction to the Criminal Code and RCMP policy
  • physical fitness and drill
  • skills to help prepare you to apply to be a police officer

Candidates who complete the training experience will receive ongoing support and guidance from the Diverse and Inclusive Pre-Cadet Experience team as they go through the RCMP's police officer application process. By completing the Diverse and Inclusive Pre-Cadet Experience training, candidates will have completed some of the steps of the police officer application process, and their applicant files will reflect the completion of these steps.

Requirements to apply

  • be 19 years of age or older
  • be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada
  • be of good character
  • be able to pass an enhanced reliability security check
  • be in good physical condition

Cost

All program costs are covered by the RCMP including travel, uniform, meals and accommodations.

Candidate experiences

Behind every DICE troop are people who arrive from different backgrounds, with powerful personal journeys, stories of growth, support, mentorship and newfound confidence. These reflections from past participants offer a glimpse into what the program meant to them and how it shaped their next steps.

The DICE experience was incredibly impactful for me. It gave me clear insight into the expectations, standards, and mindset required for the RCMP while building confidence and discipline. I strongly believe this program should be open to everyone because it provides a strong foundation for success.

Junior Diverse and Inclusive Pre-Cadet Experience (DICE) Day: A first success

On April 2, the RCMP's Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Secretariat (AREDIS), in partnership with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and the Sankofa Centre, hosted the very first Junior DICE Day at the Canadian Police College.

The inaugural event welcomed 35 high school students aged 15 to 18 from diverse backgrounds for a hands-on introduction to policing and public service.

The day began at the RCMP Visitor Centre, followed by a tour of the RCMP stables, where students were captivated by the iconic Musical Ride horses. Participants then attended three engaging presentations delivered by members of the AREDIS team, Federal Policing, and Protective Policing. Students also had the opportunity to meet members of the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) team, who showcased specialized tools and equipment, including a bomb disposal robot.

The students were given a behind-the-scenes look at an RCMP Musical Ride practice, after which the day concluded with an interactive fitness session led by two members of the NHQ Fitness Team, offering participants a firsthand glimpse into the physical demands of a policing career.

The first-ever Junior DICE Day was a resounding success, fostering inclusion, sparking curiosity, and inspiring young participants to explore future opportunities within the RCMP.
