Gimli RCMP investigating fatal garage fire

On January 12, 2025, at approximately 7:55 pm, Gimli RCMP received a report of a garage fire at a residence located on Lakeview Road on Matheson Island.
RCMP, along with the local fire department, attended the scene.
Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters located the remains of a deceased individual.
Both the cause of death and the cause of the fire remain under investigation however no criminality is suspected.
Gimli RCMP, along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, continue to investigate.
