On March 5, 2025, Jeremy Whincup, 54-years-old from Portage la Prairie was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder x 2 in relation to the double homicide that occurred in Portage la Prairie on December 1, 2024.
Whincup remains in custody along with Preston Whitford who was arrested and charged last month with the same offences.
Manitoba Major Crime Services (MCS) along with Portage la Prairie RCMP are still searching for the firearm(s) used in the offence.

Update 4 – Portage la Prairie investigating after two adults located deceased
January 13, 2025
Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services, along with Portage la Prairie RCMP have worked continuously over the last few weeks to identify and locate the outstanding suspect(s). Through their investigation, a male suspect was identified.
On January 9, 2025, the suspect was located by Manitoba First Nations Police Service in Sandy Bay following a short pursuit, and was taken into custody.
Preston Whitford, 30, of Portage la Prairie has been charged 2nd Degree Murder x2 and was remanded into custody.

Update 3– Portage la Prairie investigating after two adults located deceased
December 6, 2024
Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services has constructed a timeline surrounding the double homicide that occurred on December 1st, 2024, in Portage la Prairie.
It has been determined that on December 1, 2024, at 7:14pm, two people exited a maroon SUV and entered a residence on Oak Bay in Portage la Prairie.
A short time later, both individuals exited the residence and fled in the SUV at a high rate of speed.
RCMP believe these two individuals are suspects in the double homicide.
Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services is seeking assistance from the public to help identify the vehicle.

Update – Portage la Prairie investigating after two adults located deceased
December 3, 2024
Further investigation into the discovery of two deceased adults, RCMP Major Crimes Services has deemed the investigation to be a double homicide.
The male and female victims were in a relationship, and investigators believe this to be targeted and there is no danger to the public.
Portage la Prairie RCMP, along with RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate.

Portage la Prairie investigating after two adults located deceased
On December 1, 2024, at approximately 10:30 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a residence on Oak Bay in Portage la Prairie.
Officers attended the address and located a 42-year-old male, and 37-year-old female deceased.
At this time, there is no concern for public safety.
RCMP will provide further information when available.
