Moose Lake RCMP are investigating two separate and unrelated homicides

On June 24, 2025, at 8:30 pm, Moose Lake RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing outside a residence located on Portage Road in Mosakahiken Cree Nation.


Officers attended to the address and located a 40-year-old male with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the Nursing Station where he was pronounced deceased. 

A 21-year-old male was arrested on scene and remains in police custody.

Several hours later, just after midnight, Moose Lake RCMP received a report of an assault with a weapon at a home on Traders Road in Mosakahiken Cree Nation.

As officers were responding, they came across community members transporting the victim, a 19-year-old male with life-threatening injuries, to the Nursing Station who was later pronounced deceased.

A 26-year-old male was arrested a short time later at a nearby residence and remains in police custody.

On June 25, Bruce Walker-Ballantyne, 21, of Mosakahiken Cree Nation, was charged with Second Degree Murder in relation to the death of the 40-year-old and remanded into custody. 26-year-old Ahab McNabb, of Mosakahiken Cree Nation, was charged with Second Degree Murder in relation to the death of the 19-year-old and remanded into custody.

Moose Lake RCMP, along with RCMP Major Crimes Services and The Pas RCMP Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate.
