Oakbank RCMP respond to fatal off-road vehicle collision on Highway 44

On June 17, 2025, at approximately 2:20 pm, Oakbank RCMP responded to a fatal collision on Highway 44, at Road 25E in the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead.
Officers responded immediately along with Emergency Medical Services and the local fire department. When they arrived, officers observed a sports utility vehicle (SUV) with some damage, off the road in the grass. An off-road vehicle (ORV) on its side in the middle of the road in the westbound lane of Highway 44.
Further investigation revealed that the SUV was travelling west on Highway 44 when the ORV attempted to cross the road northbound from Road 25E, hitting the SUV on the front driver side.
The female driver, 39-year-old from Beausejour, was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The two female occupants of the SUV, also from Beausejour, were not injured. The driver of the ORV, 42-year-old male from Winnipeg, was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger of the ORV, 32-year-old male from Winnipeg, was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
Oakbank RCMP, along with the RCMP Forensic Collision reconstructionist continue to investigate.
