On June 17, 2025, at 11:00 am, Selkirk RCMP and RCMP Central Traffic Services responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 8 north of Bay Road in the Rural Municipality of St Andrews.

Officers responded immediately, along with Emergency Medical Services and the local fire department. When they arrived, officers observed a large truck on its side in the west ditch and a sedan was in the middle of the road.

Further investigation revealed that the large truck was travelling south on Highway 8 and the sedan was heading northbound, when it suddenly veered into the other lane, colliding head-on with the truck.

The driver, a 36-year-old male from Winnipeg, and sole occupant of the sedan, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the large truck, a 67-year-old male from St. Pierre-Jolys, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, a RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft System operator and Motor Carrier Enforcement assisted with the investigation at the scene. The Highway was re-opened at approximately 3:40 pm.

Selkirk RCMP continues to investigate.
