On August 21,2025, at approximately 1 :30 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a disturbance involving a weapon at a residence on Saskatchewan Avenue East.

Officers responded immediately and observed a male yelling threats out of a third story window at pedestrians on the street. At one point, witnesses observed the suspect waving a hatchet.

To ensure public safety, police contained the suspect inside his apartment while repeatedly calling for him to surrender. He was advised to exit his residence but did not comply.
