On November 21, 2025, at approximately 2:45 am, Red River North RCMP were dispatched to a report of a residential break-in on Nye Avenue in the RM of West St. Paul.
Officers immediately responded and arrived to find a female resident and two children in a vehicle on the driveway of the residence.
The homeowner advised police that the unknown male suspect had fled the scene after she confronted him in the hallway of her residence. She further informed officers that the suspect was wearing police clothing and identified himself as a police officer.
She described the suspect as wearing a jacket with RCMP embroidery, and a baseball cap that said “Police” on it. He was also carrying two duffel bags
Additional resources, including Manitoba RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) and a drone operator were called to assist in the search for the suspect. He was located a short time later near the River Trail and arrested without incident.
None of the victims were physically injured in the incident, and the suspect fled without any items from the home.
A 32-year-old male from Winnipeg was remanded and is charged with the following:
- Breaking and entering
- Personating a peace officer
The clothing was seized and neither the jacket nor the baseball hat are uniform items issued by the RCMP or of any other police service.
The Manitoba RCMP reminds all residents that RCMP officers responding to calls for service will, in most instances, be in full uniform. This includes:
- a protective vest with “POLICE” on the front,
- a duty belt with intervention options (firearm, holster, baton, handcuffs, etc.),
- forage cap (hat) with distinctive yellow band and RCMP cap badge in the centre or a baseball cap with “RCMP Police GRC”
- pants with a distinctive yellow stripe.
This uniform can vary depending on the RCMP unit responding. If you have any concerns about the identity of the police officer you are interacting with, you can ask the officer for identification. You can also contact your local detachment's non-emergency line to determine if there is a police officer at your location.
Red River North RCMP continue to investigate.
