On November 28, 2025, at approximately 8 :00 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP were dispatched to a report of an unknown female that attempted to steal a vehicle on Dufferin Avenue East.

Officers attended the scene, and the female victim advised officers the suspect approached the vehicle, grabbed her child’s arm and attempted to get inside her SUV.

The suspect was unsuccessful and fled on foot. Neither of the victims were physically injured in the incident.

Police immediately began patrols for the suspect and located her not far from the scene. Officers advised her she was under investigative detention, but she refused to comply with police and became agitated.

The suspect actively continued to resist, repeatedly kicking officers that resulted in pieces of equipment being torn off their uniforms until she was able to be placed in a police vehicle.

Once at the detatchment, the suspect was placed in cells, but her behaviour escalated to the point where she attempted to severely injure herself and others – biting two officers who were trying to deescalate the situation.

Emergency Medical Services attended to the detachment to treat the suspect who sustained minor injuries during the incident as well as the officers.
