Swan River RCMP arrest male after shots fired outside a residence

On December 9, 2025, at approximately 11:05 pm, Swan River RCMP were notified of shots fired outside at a residence in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.
Officers attended the residence immediately and were advised by a female occupant that a male known to her, had tried to forcefully enter the home. When the suspect could not get in, he shot out the surveillance cameras and then proceeded to cut the cord disabling the home’s internet and fled the property.
Police began a search of the community for the suspect and were able to locate him inside a residence, hiding in a bedroom. He was arrested without incident.
Ammunition was seized from the property, while the suspect’s firearms were located at a separate residence.
Joshua Stevens, 34, from Swan River, was remanded and charged with the following:
- Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender x4
- Discharge firearm with intent
- Careless use of a firearm
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose x2
- Fail to comply with undertaking condition x4
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Mischief under $5,000, damage to property x2
- Weapons transfer without authority x2
- Possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized
- Using firearm in the commission of an offence
Swan River RCMP continue to investigate.
