On January 24, 2026, at 4 p.m., Gypsumville RCMP were notified that a truck had been stolen while parked at a business on Highway 6 in St. Martin Junction. The truck was seen travelling south, heading towards Lundar moments after the theft.

A short time later, officers observed the truck near Hilbre, travelling at a high rate of speed. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled from police.  Lundar RCMP were notified of the incident who then began patrolling.

Shortly after 6 p.m., Lundar RCMP located the vehicle and were able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device just north of Eriksdale on Highway 6.

The driver was immediately arrested, along with its passenger. The driver, Kenneth Mckay, 34, from Winnipeg, was arrested and remanded into custody.

It was determined the 20-year-old male passenger was not involved and was released shortly after.

Mckay was charged with a total of eight traffic offences totalling $7,096 in fines as well as:

  • Theft of truck;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
  • Flight from police;
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Mischief to vehicle over $5,000; and
  • Fail to comply with conditions of a release order x 2.

Gypsumville RCMP continue to investigate.
