Swan River RCMP arrest male, seize drugs after attempted traffic stop

On Feb. 2, at approximately 2:30 a.m., RCMP attempted to pull over an SUV travelling west on Main Street in Swan River for a traffic stop.
Instead of stopping, the SUV sped up. A short time later, the vehicle hit the curb on 9th Avenue North, with the occupants then exiting the SUV and attempting to flee from police. Officers caught up with the suspect on foot and took him into custody.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to a seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
A 46-year-old male, from Swan River, faces charges of:
- Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking x2;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
He was released on a release order.
