On February 22, just before 8 p.m., RCMP officers went to a Melita address to arrest a man wanted on an outstanding warrant for two sexual interference offences.
When officers arrived, the suspect came to the door and was informed he was under arrest. The suspect resisted arrest and a struggle then ensued between the suspect and two officers, with one officer deploying a Taser. The suspect continued to fight the officers before he eventually made his way inside the home and barricaded himself in a room.
Additional officers arrived at the location, including the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Containment Team, Police Dog Services, Deloraine and Turtle Mountain RCMP.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m., the suspect exited the residence and was safely taken into custody.
In addition to the sexual interference offences, a 36-year-old male faces charges of:
- Assaulting a police officer x2;
- Resisting arrest;
- Disarming a police officer; and
- Mischief under $5,000.
He remains in custody.
