Gimli RCMP arrest male pointing a firearm while driving a stolen vehicle

On April 21, 2026, at 12:30 am, Gimli RCMP were notified that a male suspect had stolen a vehicle from an acquaintance and later pointed a handgun at the victim.
Police were advised that the suspect, who is known to the victim, had picked up her vehicle without permission from a business where it was being repaired.
While travelling in another vehicle, between Gimli and Winnipeg Beach, the owner came across her stolen vehicle and started following it. The suspect then turned around and drove towards the victim and pointed a gun at her and the car’s other occupants. The victim then left the area and contacted police.
At 2:15 am, Gimli RCMP located the stolen vehicle parked at a residence located in the RM of Gimli. The suspect, 30-year-old Mackenzie Sabel, was arrested without incident.
Sabel was found in breach of a Conditional Sentence Order and was remanded into custody on these additional charges.

Gimli RCMP continue to investigate.
