On May 16, 2026, at 5:52 am, Poplar River RCMP responded to a report of a missing 6-year-old female.
Officers learned that the father woke up and noticed that the front door was wide-open. His 6-year-old daughter was missing as she was not found inside the residence.
Officers, fire department, family and other community members started searching for the missing child immediately. As the search continued, community boats were launched in the water, the Band deployed their drone and local search and rescue volunteers assisted with the search.
At 10:30 am, the 6-year-old female was located on the south side of the Nanowin River and pronounced deceased.
Poplar River RCMP continue to investigate and would like to thank the community for their help and support.
