A 27-year-old man from Middle Musquodoboit, N.S., has been arrested in connection with a vehicle theft and flight from police in Shediac, N.B.
On January 16, 2025, at approximately 8 p.m., members of the Sackville RCMP and Shediac RCMP received information from the Nova Scotia RCMP that a Ford F150 had been stolen from the East Hants region of Nova Scotia, and was now travelling westbound on the Trans-Canada Highway towards New Brunswick.
Members of the New Brunswick RCMP Air Services, Police Dog Services, and the Southeast Community Crime Reduction Unit were called in to assist.
Shortly after, police located the vehicle on Highway 2. As police approached the vehicle with their emergency equipment activated, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle fled from police at a high rate of speed. Police did not pursue the vehicle.
RCMP Air Services continued to follow the vehicle. The vehicle stopped and the lone driver fled on foot. The suspect crossed both highways and entered a wooded area. Shortly after, RCMP Police Dog Services located and arrested a 27-year-old man.
Members of Ambulance New Brunswick attended the scene. The 27-year-old man was treated on scene for minor injuries sustained during the arrest.
"This was a collaborative approach that was successfully conducted with the Nova Scotia RCMP and several New Brunswick RCMP supporting units," says Sgt. Kevin Glode of the Shediac RCMP. "The RCMP Air Services is an effective tool during these types of incidents as they can provide reliable operational support to our front-line officers. "
The 27-year-old man was later released, and is scheduled to appear in Moncton Provincial Court at a later date.
The investigation is ongoing.
