A 32-year-old man from Sussex, N.B., has been charged following a shooting incident in the community.
On April 17, 2025, at approximately 10:44 p.m., members of the Sussex RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in a residence on Nelson Street in Sussex. It was determined that a man attended the residence and fired several shots towards the homeowner. Another individual was also in the house at the time of the incident. When police arrived, the three men were still inside the house.
Police established a containment of the residence. Shortly after, the homeowner exited the house without incident. Police were able to make contact and negotiate with the suspect, a 32-year-old man from Sussex, who then exited the house along with a third individual. The 32-year-old man was subsequently arrested. No one was injured and it was determined that it was an isolated incident.
Later the same day, members of the Sussex RCMP executed a search warrant at the residence and seized a firearm and ammunition.
On April 22, 32-year-old Andrew Bishop appeared in Saint John Provincial Court and was charged with discharging a firearm with intent and uttering threats. He was released from custody with an ankle monitoring device, a curfew, and is prohibited from returning to the residence, contacting the victim or possessing any weapons. He is scheduled to return to court on May 20, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
