52-year-old man dies following single-vehicle crash

A 52-year-old man from Saint-Camille-de-Bellechasse, QC, has died following a single-vehicle crash near Madawaska Maliseet First Nation, N.B.

On May 23, 2025, at approximately 1:15 p.m., members of the Saint- Léonard RCMP detachment responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 2 near Madawaska Maliseet First Nation. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The crash is believed to have occurred when the vehicle travelling westbound lost control, struck a guardrail, then a road sign, and entered the ditch.

Members of the Edmundston Fire Department, Edmundston Police Department and Ambulance New Brunswick also attended the scene. A member of the New Brunswick Coroner’s office and an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

At this time, police believe speed to have been a factor in the crash.
