An investigation by RCMP Federal Policing – Eastern Region has led to charges laid against two individuals believed to be involved in importing drugs. Bruno Malenfant, 47, and Johany Deschênes, 41, both of Saint-Hubert-de-Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, face charges of importing and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
They were arrested on Friday by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers as they entered the country via the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle port of entry. A total of 53 kg of suspected cocaine was discovered in their semi-trailer truck. The investigation was then turned over to the Champlain Integrated Border Enforcement Team, and the drugs and vehicle were seized. The two appeared at the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu courthouse on Friday afternoon and remain in custody pending their next court appearance, scheduled for Monday. The investigation is ongoing.
The RCMP would like to recognize the CBSA's collaboration on this file.
