Edmonton resident arrested for uttering threats and mischief to religious property

On Sep. 10, 2025, the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) arrested and charged a 20-year-old Edmonton resident for hate-related offences.

INSET, in partnership with Edmonton Police Service, launched an investigation into an incident involving hateful rhetoric spray-painted on a seniors’ facility in the Edmonton area. Investigators identified the accused based on an alleged online post claiming responsibility for the incident.

Malachi Bristol (20), a resident of Edmonton, was arrested and charged with:

  • Mischief related to religious property contrary to section 430(4.1) of the Criminal Code; and,
  • Uttering threats contrary to section 264.1(1) of the Criminal Code.

Bristol was released with conditions and appeared at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on Oct. 8, 2025.
