RCMP Federal Policing – Eastern Region searched a home on Channing Place in St. John’s on January 14, 2025.  Numerous drugs, a quantity of cash and loaded firearms, including a 3D printed handgun, were seized.  Twenty-six-year-old Asian Htoo was arrested and is charged with numerous criminal offences.

As part of an ongoing investigation, RCMP officers obtained a warrant to search the home authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  Inside the home, police located and seized the following items:

  • A quantity of suspected fentanyl
  • More than a thousand pharmaceutical opioids, including quantities of oxycodone, morphine, codeine and hydromorphone
  • 2 kilograms of cocaine
  • A quantity of methylphenidate
  • A quantity of clonazepam
  • A quantity of contraband tobacco
  • Approximately $20,000.00 cash
  • Three handguns, including a Taurus .357 magnum revolver, a loaded Glock 9 mm and a loaded 9 mm 3D printed pistol 
  • A semi-automatic rifle
  • Two pump-action shotguns, one of which was sawed off
  • Ammunition
  • Over capacity magazines
  • Prohibited weapons, including brass knuckles
  • Stolen property

A total of 79 criminal charges were laid against Htoo for criminal offences including drug trafficking, possession for the purpose of drug trafficking a number of controlled substances, as well as firearms and weapons charges. 

He appeared in court yesterday and was remanded into custody for the purpose of a bail hearing, which will take place on January 22, 2025.

The investigation is continuing with further charges possible.
