A 70-year-old man was arrested on June 24, 2025, by RCMP Traffic Services East following the report of a suspected impaired driver.
Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Clarenville RCMP received a report of a vehicle that was traveling all over the roadway on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) near Arnold’s Cove. The vehicle was located and stopped by RCMP Traffic Services East on the TCH near Long Harbour. The driver showed signs of alcohol impairment and failed a roadside breath test. The man was arrested for impaired operation and was transported to Whitbourne detachment where he provided further breath samples that were above the legal limit.
The man was issued a licence suspension and is set to appear in court at a later date to face charges of impaired operation. The vehicle was seized and impounded.
RCMP NL thanks those who continue to report suspected impaired or dangerous drivers. Those who drive while impaired place themselves and all others who share the roadway at increased risk of serious injury or death.
RCMP NL continues to fulfill its mandate to protect public safety, enforce the law, and ensure the delivery of priority policing services in Newfoundland and Labrador.
