In the very early hours of Saturday morning, Gander RCMP conducted a traffic stop after a motorist was found honking their horn repeatedly in a residential area. An impaired operation investigation ensued and that driver now faces charges.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 19, Gander RCMP performed a traffic stop on vehicle in a local parking lot near the intersection of Bennett Drive and Elizabeth Drive in Gander. The driver, a 41-year-old woman, showed signs of alcohol impairment and failed a roadside breath test. An open container of alcohol was also found inside her vehicle.
She was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the detachment, where she provided further breath samples that were nearly twice the legal limit. Her license was suspended and her vehicle seized and impounded. She was released from custody and will appear in court at a future date.
Impaired drivers place themselves and all others who share the roadway at increased risk of serious injury or death. RCMP NL is dedicated to keeping roadways safe and free from those who choose to drive while impaired. If you suspect a driver is operating a vehicle while impaired, please call 9-1-1-, or immediately contact your local police to make a report.
