Bay St. George RCMP investigating after man crashes vehicle into local business

A 42-year-old Stephenville man is facing criminal charges after crashing his vehicle into a local Stephenville business early Tuesday morning.

Just before 7:30 a.m. on August 26, Bay St. George RCMP received a report of a disturbance involving two individuals outside a business on Main Street in Stephenville. The pair involved were known to each other prior to the altercation.

Their verbal dispute escalated, and ended when the man crashed his vehicle into the main entrance of the business, causing significant damage to the building and nearly striking the other person.

The vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival but later returned. The driver was taken into police custody.

Wayne Mugford was held in police custody to appear before the courts. He has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon,
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,
  • Mischief over $5,000,
  • Taking a motor vehicle without consent,
  • Resist/obstruct a peace officer.

The investigation is ongoing.
