RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador encourages anyone who witnesses a crime or who wants to report suspicious activity to reach out to police. However, if you call your local detachment, it’s important to select the correct menu option so that officers can provide the right support.
Recently, a number of callers seeking non-emergency police assistance have selected the incorrect menu option. When you call an RCMP detachment in the province, you will be provided with three options:
- If your call is an emergency, hang up and dial 9-1-1.
- Press 1 if you are calling to speak to an officer about a previously reported incident, to provide information to police or with an administrative query. This will connect you with the detachment, and you may be asked to leave a message if staff are engaged with other visitors and callers.
- Press 2 if you currently require non-emergency police assistance. This will connect you with our Operations Communications Centre so that your request can be actioned.
Your choice will help us connect you to the right assistance at the right time, so it is important to listen to all of our menu items and carefully select the one that best suits your needs.
RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador is dedicated to serving and protecting in over 600 communities across our province.
If you observe a crime or suspicious activity, please record what you see, including licence plates of involved vehicles, descriptions of involved individuals and the date, time and location of the incident. As soon as possible, report this information directly to your local police detachment. RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador can also be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (800)-709-7267.
In an emergency, always call 911.
