Deer Lake RCMP investigating fire in Hampden, seeking public’s assistance

Deer Lake RCMP are seeking information from the public as they investigate a fire that was reported to the Hamden Volunteer Fire Department on Thursday evening. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
On August 7th at 10:15pm, Deer Lake RCMP received a call from the Hamden Volunteer Fire Department, advising of a fire in a gravel pit along Route 421, just outside of Hampden, NL.
Crews extinguished the fire safely, and no injuries were reported.
Deer Lake RCMP is investigating the cause of the fire.
Residents are asked to check any security cameras that may have captured traffic near the gravel pit — located approximately 2.5 kilometers from Hampden off route 421 — on Thursday between 8:30 and 10:00 p.m.. This could include dash cam footage, home surveillance or trail cams.
Residents who have video surveillance footage, or anyone who has information about the fire, is asked to contact Deer Lake RCMP at 709-635-2173.
A province-wide fire ban is currently in effect. Anyone who sees an active fire is asked to report it immediately to their local fire department. If you would like to report suspicious activity, please contact your local police as soon as possible to make a report.
