A 44-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after a search of a Grand Falls-Windsor residence resulted in the seizure of drugs, contraband tobacco and weapons.

On August 28, 2025, police officers with RCMP West District General Investigation Section and Grand Falls-Windsor detachment executed a search warrant, authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a residence on Carmelite Road. Police Service Dog Thor and his handler also assisted with the search.

Inside the home, police located and seized a number of items and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking activity including:

  • a quantity of cocaine;
  • a quantity of cannabis;
  • a quantity of unknown prescription pills;
  • contraband tobacco;
  • an imitation firearm;
  • cash.

A 44-year-old Grand Falls-Windsor man was arrested at the scene. He now faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine.

He was later released from custody and is expected to make his first court appearance in December 2025.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador warns that current street-level quantities of cocaine are of an extremely high potency and can easily result in death to the user. Cocaine is currently the leading cause of overdose deaths in Newfoundland and Labrador. Naloxone is ineffective in combatting cocaine overdose.  If you suspect someone is overdosing on cocaine, immediately seek medical attention.
