Clarenville RCMP ticketed six drivers caught operating their vehicles at dangerously high speeds over a three-hour period on Wednesday afternoon.
Between 12:50 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. on October 15, 2025, officers captured five different drivers traveling at speeds well over the speed limit along the TCH. These motorists were stopped after radar confirmed speeds that were 29 to 33 km/hr over the posted speed limit and all five were issued tickets for speeding under the Highway Traffic Act.
At 3:50 p.m. a sixth driver was observed traveling at speeds up to 151 km/hour in a 100 km/hour zone in the Come by Chance area. That driver — a 30-year-old man operating a rented vehicle — was ticketed for excessive speeding and issued an immediate license suspension. The vehicle was also seized by police and impounded.
RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador urges motorists to slow down. Plan your trip ahead so you have plenty of time to get where you are going. The extra minute or two that you might save by speeding is not worth it.
Penalties like fines, having your license suspended or having your vehicle seized and impounded are all very possible when you speed – but there are far worse consequences: you could seriously hurt yourself, your passengers, other drivers, pedestrians or animals. In some cases, your speed could cause life-altering injury or cost someone their life.
