A 37-year-old man had his licence suspended yesterday after he was caught traveling 67 km/h over the speed limit by RCMP Traffic Services East.

On October 9, 2025 around 6:20 p.m., a Traffic Services East officer stopped a pickup truck observed travelling at speeds up to 167 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The driver was ticketed for excessive speeding and issued a seven-day suspension under the Highway Traffic Act.

This long weekend, RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador is taking part in Operation Impact, a nationwide road safety campaign targeting the most significant factors in serious and fatal collisions like speed, seatbelts, distracted and aggressive driving, and impaired operation.  Officers across the province will be conducting patrols and checkpoints across the province to remove impaired drivers from roadways and to ensure that all motorists are driving safely.

Remember to buckle up, slow down and never operate a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If you see a driver you suspect is operating impaired, or a driver who is posting an immediate threat to road safety, please call 911..
