From October 10-13, officers will be conducting patrols and checkpoints across the province to remove impaired drivers from roadways and to ensure that all motorists are driving safely.
Operation Impact is led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) in support of Canada's Road Safety Strategy 2025. Enforcement and education will focus on four of the most significant factors of serious and fatal collisions:
- impaired driving,
- distracted driving,
- aggressive driving, and
- not wearing a seatbelt or wearing one incorrectly
With an increase in traffic expected over the long weekend, RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador reminds all motorists to plan ahead to ensure everyone arrives safely at Thanksgiving celebrations. Buckle up, slow down obey safety rules and never operate a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
If you suspect an impaired driver, or a driver who is an immediate threat to road safety, call 911 immediately. Include the following information, if possible:
- A description of the vehicle and driver
- A licence plate number
- The direction the vehicle is travelling
Together, we can make ensure that every journey ends with a safe arrival for everyone.
