Before taking on his worldwide flight, Santa made a special trip to Happy Valley-Goose Bay to deliver his 15th Annual Toys for the North delivery! Over 1,300 toys have now made their way across the big land to youths living in Labrador’s coastal communities.

Toys for the North is a RCMP-led initiative that delivers holiday gifts to youth living in northern communities across Canada. Here in our province, Labrador District RCMP officers, along with RCMP Air Services and our partners at the Canadian Toy Association, Thomson Terminals Limited, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), 5 Wing Goose Bay, and Woodward Aviation worked together to organize this event.

On Sunday, December 7th at 1:45 p.m., a Royal Canadian Air Force CC130J Hercules touched down with eight pallets of toys, which were placed inside the RCMP hanger in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

From there, toys were carried by Santa’s RCMP Labrador District elves to youth ages 0-11 in:

  • Sheshatshiu
  • Happy Valley-Goose Bay
  • Nain
  • Hopedale
  • Natuashish
  • Makkovik
  • Postville
  • Rigolet
  • Cartwright
  • Black Tickle
  • Mary's Harbour
  • St. Lewis
  • Port Hope Simpson, and
  • Charlottetown area

In total, more than 1,300 toys were distributed across Labrador this December as part of the Toys for the North initiative.

“Toys for the North is a tradition that brings so much joy to our children, our communities and the officers and staff that participate,” says Assistant Commissioner Pat Cahill, Commanding Officer of RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador. “We are pleased to partner in this wonderful initiative, creating happy holiday memories for youth and families living in the communities that we proudly protect and serve.”

RCMP Labrador District has been involved with Toys for the North since 2012. Over 15 years, Toys for the North have delivered holiday magic to children in communities across Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Northern Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador.

On average, each year, 4,000 children receive a toy that is delivered by RCMP employees across the country.
