Burin Peninsula RCMP pulled over a novice driver who attempted to avoid a checkstop in Grand Bank early Tuesday morning. The 18-year-old man was issued a ticket for operating without valid insurance and the vehicle was seized by police.
On December 30, 2025, at approximately 1:18 a.m., police observed a vehicle attempting to avoid a checkpoint in Grand Bank and conducted a traffic stop. The 18-year-old driver was operating with a learner’s permit, which prohibits driving between the hours of 12:00 – 5:00 a.m. In addition, the car did not have a valid insurance policy.
The vehicle was towed and impounded, and the driver was issued tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for contravening a condition of their licence and for the insurance coverage violation.
As the holiday season comes to a close, RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador will continue to conduct enhanced patrols and checkpoints across the province to remove impaired drivers from roadways, and to ensure that all motorists are driving safely.
Slow down, buckle up and never operate a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If you suspect an impaired driver or see a driver who is an immediate threat to road safety, call 911.
