Bay Roberts RCMP responded Friday night to reports of an impaired driver operating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) dangerously in the Spaniard’s Bay area. The 58-year-old man was ticketed, his licence suspended and his ATV impounded.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., on January 23, 2026, police responded to multiple reports from concerned members of the public of an erratic and possibly intoxicated ATV operator riding in the area of Mint Cove Pond Road in Spaniard’s Bay.

Police attended the area and located the driver of the described ATV. Officers noted clear signs of impairment while interacting with the operator, a 58-year-old man. A roadside breath test was conducted, and the man provided a breath sample that was above the provincial limit but below the criminal threshold for impaired driving.

His ATV was seized and impounded by police. He was issued a seven-day license suspension and ticked under the provincial Off-Road Vehicles Act.

Impaired operation of any motor vehicle, including off-road and all-terrain vehicles, is a choice that unnecessarily places the driver and others at an increased, and unacceptable, level of risk. If you suspect an individual is driving while impaired, please immediately call your local police or 911 to make a report.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador thanks the public for continuing to report instances of suspected impaired operation to police.
