Natuashish RCMP arrested an impaired driver who assaulted a police officer while being taken into custody on Sunday night.
At approximately 10:00 p.m. on February 15, 2026, Natuashish RCMP received a report of a disturbance at a residence on Tshakapesh Street. Officers responded and discovered that the suspect, who was known to the resident, had entered the home unlawfully and threated the occupants.
Police located the man outside the residence and attempted to take him into custody, but the man resisted arrested and physically assaulted one officer, who was not injured.
Javaron Gregoire, 29, was arrested and transported to the Natuashish detachment. As he showed signs of intoxication and police believed he driven to the scene on a snowmobile, he was also provided a demand for a breath sample and provided samples up to three times the legal limit.
Gregoire was held in police custody until his next court appearance on February 19, 2026, where he will answer to charges of:
- Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired
- Operation while over 80%mg
- Assault on a Police Officer
- Being unlawfully in a dwelling/house
- Resisting/Obstructing a peace officer
- Uttering threats to property/animals
Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a choice that puts the driver and all others who share the roadway at an unnecessary and unacceptable risk of serious injury or death.
