A 20-year-old driver is without her car and licence after she was stopped for excessive speeding by RCMP Traffic Services West Saturday afternoon near Rocky Harbour.

On February 28, 2026, shortly before 3:30 p.m., police patrolling Route 430 through Gros Morne National Park observed a vehicle travelling at a speed of 133 km/hr in an 80 km/h zone near the community of Rocky Harbour.

A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was ticketed for excessive speeding.

Her driver’s license was suspended, and the vehicle was seized by police and impounded.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador urges motorists to slow down and drive with added caution as weather and road condition can change and deteriorate quickly. The extra minute or two that you might save by speeding is simply not worth it. There are penalties like fines, or having your license suspended or vehicle impounded. But there are far worse consequences, like life-altering injuries or even death.
