RCMP in Labrador suspended the licence of a driver caught travelling 56 km/h over the posted speed limit on Route 520.
Earlier today, Friday May 8, a Forteau RCMP officer - on patrol in Lanse Au Clair - stopped a vehicle observed travelling at 106 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone in the community.
The 19-year-old Quebec driver was ticketed under the Newfoundland and Labrador Highway Traffic Act for excessive speeding. His licence was suspended.
As warmer weather and longer days arrive in Newfoundland and Labrador, it can be tempting to hit the gas pedal and enjoy the open road, but excessive speed is one of the most common contributors to serious motor vehicle collisions.
There are penalties for speeding – like fines, having your license suspended or having your vehicle seized and impounded. And there are far worse consequences: you could seriously hurt yourself, your passengers, other drivers or pedestrians. In some cases, your speed could cause life-altering injury or cost someone their life. Slow down. Drive safe.
