The RCMP-RNC Joint Forces Operation West arrested two people Wednesday, with the assistance of Deer Lake RCMP, after a traffic stop resulted in the seizure of a quantity of cocaine.
On May 27, JFO West investigators were conducting surveillance in the Howley area as part of an ongoing investigation, when they observed activity consistent with the purchase of a controlled substance.
With the assistance of Deer Lake RCMP, a traffic stop was conducted on the Trans Canada Highway between Howley and Deer Lake. Two occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrested for possession of a controlled substance. A subsequent search of the motor vehicle resulted in the seizure of a quantity of cocaine.
A 66-year-old Norris Point man and a 26-year-old woman from Corner Brook were charged with possession of a controlled substance and released from custody with conditions. They are expected to appear in court at a future date.
The investigation is ongoing.
