A 21-year-old man had his vehicle seized and licence suspended after being caught by RCMP Traffic Services Central travelling 55 km/h over the posted speed limit Wednesday.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m. on July 15, an officer patrolling the Trans-Canada Highway near Glovertown observed a vehicle traveling at speeds up to 155 km/h where the posted speed limit was 100 km/h. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 21-year-old man, was issued a roadside licence suspension and ticketed for excessive speed. In addition, police seized and impounded the vehicle he was driving.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador reminds motorists to slow down and stay alert this summer as roads across the province become busier with residents and visitors on the move. The extra minute or two that you might save by speeding is simply not worth it. There are penalties like fines, or the loss of your licence or vehicle. But there are far worse consequences, like life-altering injuries or even death.
