Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP arrested a 61-year-old man for impaired driving after receiving a tip from a concerned member of the public yesterday evening.
At approximately 7:10 p.m. on July 27, Placentia RCMP received a report regarding a suspected impaired driver and located the described vehicle on Veteran’s Way. Police stopped the car, observed signs of impairment and the driver of the vehicle, a 61-year-old Placentia man, failed a roadside breath test.
He was transported to a nearby detachment where further testing confirmed his impairment. His vehicle was seized and impounded, and his driver’s licence was suspended.
He was released from custody and will appear in Harbour Grace Provincial Court in October 2026 to answer to charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and impaired operation over 80 mg%.
Impaired operation of any motor vehicle is a choice that places the driver and others at an increased, unnecessary and unacceptable level of risk. If you suspect an individual is driving while impaired, please immediately call 911 to make a report.
