Shelburne RCMP Detachment is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Hwy. 103 near Shelburne.

On June 23, at approximately 1:15 p.m., Shelburne RCMP, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 103 near Birchtown. RCMP officers learned that a black Volkswagen Jetta and a yellow Ford F-150 collided head-on on the roadway. When first responders arrived on scene, the Ford was fully engulfed in flames and the Volkswagen had significant damage.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 42-year-old woman from Clyde River, was found to be deceased. The driver of the Ford, a 32-year-old man from Williamswood, was also found to be deceased. Both drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene, in addition to the Nova Scotia Department of Public Works. The investigation is ongoing with support from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service. The Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration was notified because a work vehicle was involved; the Department’s investigation is underway. The highway was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Anyone with information about this incident or dashcam footage of the vehicles or the area prior to the collision is asked to call Shelburne RCMP Detachment at 902-875-2490. To remain anonymous, contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers, toll-free, at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submit a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca, or use the P3 Tips app.
