Cumberland County District RCMP is investigating several suspicious fires in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

On August 13, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Cumberland County District RCMP were called to help restrict traffic and warn residents of a potential need to evacuate as fire crews and DNR resources were working to control fires along two stretches of road near Oxford. Along Hwy. 204 near Birchwood and along Jungle Rd. south of Oxford Station, firefighters were attempting to control multiple grass fires.

Evidence collected near one of the fires indicates the fires were intentionally set.

Cumberland County District RCMP are investigating, assisted by Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources.

Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the following areas is asked to contact their local Cumberland Country District RCMP office:

  • Hwy. 321 around Oxford Junction between 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on August 13

  • Jungle Rd. from Hwy. 321 to Thomson Rd. between 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on August 13
