Kings District RCMP responds to emergency calls found to be false

Kings District RCMP determined that two emergency calls were incidents of “swatting” and not associated to real emergency situations.
On October 4 at approximately 7:10 p.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a report of gunshots from a residence in Cambridge. The officers who attended determined that the call was false.
Later that day at approximately 8:20 p.m., Kings District RCMP received a request from fire services to attend a report of an illegal burn at same residence as the earlier false report of gunshots. Officers attended with firefighters and quickly determined this to also be a false report.
False reports of emergencies are often referred to as “swatting.” These types of calls are not pranks; they are criminal acts with potential legal consequences that tie up resources and can create risk in the community.
These false reports are under investigation.
