RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is investigating a fatal, single-vehicle crash in Fall River.

On October 2, at approximately 3 p.m., RCMP officers, EHS and fire services responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 102 at Exit 5.  Officers learned a Jeep Compass was travelling southbound on Hwy. 102 when it went off the road, over the guardrail, and into Lake Thomas.

Witnesses made efforts to assist the driver, and lone occupant, of the Compass which was submerged. Fire services extracted the driver, an 80-year-old man of Lower Sackville, who was located deceased.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene along with the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, to assist with the ongoing investigation.  The on-ramp to Hwy. 102 southbound at Fall River was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones at this difficult time.
