Update: RCMP charge three people related to fatal collision in Bras d’Or area

RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton has charged three people following an investigation into a fatal collision that occurred in Groves Point.

On June 14, at approximately 7 p.m., RCMP officers, Cape Breton Regional Police Service, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 105. A sedan and a Harley Davidson motorcycle had collided and the sedan fled the area. The motorcycle’s sole rider suffered life-threatening injuries and died the following day.

On September 15, RCMP Northeast Traffic Services charged Jerry Walter Jessome, 42, of Sydney Mines with:


Jessome was remanded into custody. He will appear in Sydney Provincial Court on October 16.

Two passengers in the sedan provided false information about the collision at the time of the incident. The two, Brandy Williams, 45, and Cheryl Lomond, 47, both of North Sydney, have each been charged with Obstruction of Justice.

Williams and Lomond are scheduled to appear in Sydney Provincial Court on October 30.

“The detailed accounts from passing motorists—many of whom stopped immediately to aid the victim—along with the support of the victim’s family, were critical to this investigation,” says Cst. Aaron Brown, lead investigator. “We extend appreciation on behalf of our team and the victim’s family for immediately attending to the victim and supporting the investigation.”
